It's time to plant marigolds to be ready by May 7. First graders are learning about ways to start new plants. Seeds can start marigolds; bulbs can start onions, garlic, daffodils; tubers start new sweet potato slips.
Aldo Leopold Benches arrive!
Thanks to Joe Muellenberg, UW-Extension Youth Coordinator, Allis Outdoor Classrooms will soon have 8 new Aldo Leopold benches. Joe worked with the youth Grow Academy students to build these additions to our garden area.
Garlic Is Up!
On March 29, Ms. Polzer's kindergarteners discovered garlic sprouts growing in our three-circle gardens. These were planted last fall by first graders, because most garlic bulbs need a long growing season. The leaves on the garlic bed helped protect the bulbs from the winter freezing weather. Now it is time to remove those leaves.
